Led by Van McLain, the band were signed to Arista and offered a showcase gig in London at the legendary Marquee Club where bands such as The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Who and Led Zeppelin started out. West had already flirted with fame in the music business as the drummer for the legendary Kansas City band the Chessmen.
