New Boeing 787 Dreamliner is more fuel efficient than its competitors and produces 20% less CO2. This could couse Airbus some problems with sales when CO2 trading starts.

I agree. The European transport commission should have the money and the means to build out extensive high speed rail, or if it's found economically feasible, even maglev. Instead we have a situation where we have to wait for the planets and political climates to align just to build a small stretch which isn't even planned from an European perspective.
