Description:
Performed by Cab Calloway in "Rhythm & Blues Revue" 1955. He also performed this same song in "The Blues Brothers" 1980. The song was written by Calloway in 1930 and is based both musically and lyrically on "Willie the Weeper". The lyrics are heavily laden with drug references. "Smoky" is described as "cokey" meaning a user of cocaine; the phrase "kicking the gong around" was a slang reference to smoking opium, and other verses describe Minnie's opium dream, involving living with the King of Sweden and having a "million dollars worth of nickels and dimes." |

Description:
A Robert Altman short film made before he did his first feature - M.A.S.H. With music from The Tijuana Brass. Altman made several short films. "Pot au Feu" - was another - a parody of a cooking show but with the chef rolling a joint. I haven't been able to find it. |

| chastash ::: Favorites Yes. The irony about such fashionable techniques is that they are used to show how "hip" the film making is, and immediately date the results. A lesson for all contemporary film makers drunk on stupid digital effects. 07-06-24 13:12:38 _____________________________________________________ | |
| wallyworld ::: Favorites Yeah. Wish I could find his short "Pot au Feu". 07-06-01 03:59:38 _____________________________________________________ | |
